Wellness pet exams have two main purposes: To establish baseline health and to detect underlying signs of disease. Our veterinarians use their expertise as well as veterinary diagnostic tools to perform a thorough evaluation of your pet’s health. Why Parasite Prevention is Needed All Year Round
During your pet’s annual exam, parasite prevention is an essential topic of discussion. Parasites such as fleas, ticks, and heartworms (transmitted by mosquitoes) are a real threat to your pet’s health, and are especially prevalent in North Carolina’s mild climate. Fleas can cause an allergic reaction in sensitive pets and can also transmit Bartonella or “cat scratch disease.”
Ticks are known to transmit Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and ehrlichiosis to us and our pets. And finally, heartworms can cause heartworm disease, which is hard to detect and can be fatal if left untreated.
